  3. Friendly matches tend to have trivial importance, especially when is Scotland against the five-time world champion winner Brazil.
Brazilian fans saw the legendary forward Ronaldo bid farewell before the game, and were introduced to his latest heir, Neymar, the 19-year-old who scored both goals that led Brazil to a victory, leaving the match 2-0. It was a display that served only to strengthen his reputation as one of the world’s brightest prospects.
With Mano Menezes’s Brazil an easy winner even without some of its stars (because of injury), and the Scots now set to plummet 11 places in the FIFA.
Playing such relatively meaningless games in European cities minimizes the demands on a Brazilian squad built heavily around Europe-based players. But there are those who see with other eyes and point that Brazil seems to take precedence.
Sunday’s game marked the 19th time the Brazilians have played a friendly at a neutral site since the 2006 World Cup.
For the purist soccer fan, Brazil is a second love, truly a team for the world. By playing lucrative exhibitions in Europe and elsewhere, the Brazilian association is merely capitalizing on this idealism. And Brazil’s nomadic existence allows fans who may not usually have the opportunity to see the first-hand a glimpse of the team.
With this summer’s Copa América approaching fast, the 2014 World Cup ever closer and Brazil still a team in transition, any game is a relatively worthwhile exercise and sunday’s match was no exception.
“It’s a good starting point,” Menezes told reporters after the victory. “We want the Brazilian team to represent the ideal people have of the Brazil team.”

  4. SUMMARY 1:

It started out as a typical spat between a mother and child: Holger Kragh wanted to take his coat off during a walk in the woods. His mother wouldn't let him.The 3-year-old stormed off -- and vanished.
When Holger was still missing at lunchtime, his parents called the police, sparking an intensive search.
As news of his disappearance spread, hundreds of members of the public also fanned out to help search the area, Tranum Klitplantage, in north Jutland.
In the end, they even sent out an ice cream truck, hoping that Holger would hear its bells and follow the sound.
But as night fell Sunday, as temperatures dropped to near freezing and rain began to fall, there was no sign of him.The search continued Monday morning, a bright clear day -- and then the news broke, in the form of a shout as CNN affiliate TV2 was broadcasting live.
"Ja!" comes the roar from just off-screen. The camera swings to find police team leader Flemming Bruun Jacobsen pumping a fist in the air, his other hand holding a phone to his ear.
"They found him?" reporter Cathrine Reinert asked.
"They found him!" the policeman shouts back.
"Where?" Reinert asks as he puts his phone down.
"I don't know yet. We're sending a police car to get him," Jacobsen says with a grin. The boy was found by a member of the public on horseback 4 to 5 kilometers (2.5 to 3 miles) from the place where he was last seen, Badsberg said. He was in good health and good spirits, the police commissioner said.
Holger was reunited with his weeping parents, and his mother, Heidi Kragh, carried the tired, slightly bewildered-looking boy into an ambulance to be taken to a hospital for precautionary tests.
For the record, he was wearing his coat.

Eighty-five people were injured in the blast in Abyan Province, some critically, said the official, who asked not to be named out of fears for his safety. Security officials said Monday that most of the dead and injured were locals who had been ransacking the factory after it was taken over by militants Sunday. At a meeting, Gov. Saleh al-Zawari "stressed the importance of cohesion and solidarity to stand together against these criminal and terrorist elements who try to hit the social peace in the governorate," Saba said.
The explosion took place after months of demonstrations targeting Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh, as well as a weekend of clashes between government forces and al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. People on both sides were killed, security forces said."We will continue for days, weeks and even months if we have to," said Adel Qubati, a youth activist in Taiz. "President Saleh's tricks will only buy him more time, and we will assure that he leaves office in disgrace."Another young activist, Nofel Abdul Moqni, said, "Every day we stay under the sun protesting makes us stronger."Saleh has been fighting to hold onto power, arguing that he is best equipped to lead the fight against Islamists.

Christian Louboutin is the Parisian shoe designer whose skyscraper heels are coveted by women all over the world. But behind each trademark red-soled shoe is a feat of custom engineering. "The heel is engineering in itself," said the sought-after designer in his Paris atelier. " "If you just look at the heel, you are immediately going to see that if there was not the (right) engineering), it would break," the designer told CNN. But even with heels measuring just two inches, these metal points still need to be inserted into the heel to perfect the balance of the wearer. "I wouldn't say it is an art," he said, but does admit that "it is complicated.". "The shoe is so important because it shows the posture," he said of the footwear worn by showgirls. "It has to be comfortable ... but it has to give the perfect shape and elongate the legs to the maximum."The actual build of his shoes, he said, is architecturally inspired and he cites the fluid and seemingly gravity-defying buildings of Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer as an important influence. And he believes that there is no point wearing a shoe that makes you suffer, however beautiful. he also believes that all women are different and so have different pain thresholds. But as long as women continue to covet his designs he maintains that the sky is the limit in terms of what he can design. "For me there ain't no high heel high enough," he said

American college students a no-show in Acapulco
    By Rafael Romo, CNN

For the past 18 years, folk musician Raymundo Oregon has been playing his accordion in the beach resort of Acapulco. He's seen de good and bad times of the beach. "Foreign tourists don't come here anymore because of the violence. As you may know, we've recently had many incidents here in Acapulco". Violent deaths logged by the Acapulco morgue topped 1,000 last year, mostly related to drug trafficking.
Acapulco became popular with Americans, especially spring breakers in the months of March and April. But this season is different; restaurants and bars are empty, and very few foreigners can be seen on the beach.Brian Forgrave, a Canadian tourist who visits Acapulco yearly, says he's definitely noticed a change.
Jose Luis Espejel, customer service manager at the Acapulco Copacabana hotel, says this is the slowest season he's seen in his five years at the resort and calls it "a big difference."
After a series of gruesome murders late last year, American and British authorities issued warnings to travelers about Acapulco. The U.S. Department of State says on its website that "drug-related violence has been increasing in Acapulco" and that "U.S. citizens ... should be vigilant in their personal safety." But at the same time, it clarifies that "this violence is not targeted at foreign residents or tourists."
Hotels, tourism operators and related business have joined forces for a campaign to talk up the city. With more than 300 deaths this year, Acapulco is on pace to break last year's record. But nightclub owner Brian Rullan says the "violence is not against tourism."
"Any tourist can come here, and they'll never see violence." He insists that recent violence in Acapulco is drug-related and that it's only those involved in illegal drug trafficking who are affected by it.
Oregon says he knows tourists are not flocking to Acapulco the way they used to, and he feels it in his pocket. Playing a song has now become the exception rather than the norm.

Parents sue over Facebook photos of dead daughter

The parents of a murder victim are suing Facebook after a paramedic pleaded guilty to photographing their daughter's corpse and posting the image to the social networking site, according to court documents.
Caroline Wimmer, 26, was found by her parents, after she was strangled with a hair-dryer cord in New York.
The couple is suing Facebook in an effort to force the company to turn over the image, identify who may have downloaded the photograph and prevent the image from being further disseminated
But the social networking site could be protected by the 1996 Communications Decency Act, which says "no provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider."
The parents are also suing their daughter's convicted murderer, Calvin Lawson, paramedic Musarella, the city of New York and Greenleaf Arms Incorporated -- the company that owns the apartment building where Wimmer's body was found.
The pair are also suing Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano and Richmond University Medical Center, where Musarella had been employed.
The image was discovered by an acquaintance of Musarella, who alerted Richmond University Medical Center.
    Wimmer's murderer, Lawson, is serving 25 years-to-life.
Martha Wimmer said Tuesday that she is traveling to the state capitol in support of pending legislation that would enact harsher penalties for a public worker who broadcasts or publishes an image of a crime scene outside their official duties.

It started out as a typical spat between a mother and child. Holger Kragh wanted to take his coat off during a walk in the woods. His mother wouldn't let him. The 3-year-old stormed off -- and vanished.
When Holger was still missing at lunchtime, his parents called the police, sparking an intensive search. As news of his disappearance spread, hundreds of members of the public also fanned out to help search the area. Police got an unprecedented number of calls offering assistance. But as night fell Sunday, there was no sign of him. The search continued Monday morning, a bright clear day -- and then the news broke. Flemming Bruun Jacobsen pumping a fist in the air, his other hand holding a phone to his ear. "They found him?" reporter Cathrine Reinert asks. “They found him!" the policeman shouts back. “Where?” Then, unable to contain himself, he raises both fists and erupts once again: "Yes! “The boy was found by a member of the public on horseback 4 to 5 kilometers (2.5 to 3 miles) from the place where he was last seen, Badsberg said .He was in good health and good spirits and his mother, Heidi Kragh, carried the tired, slightly bewildered-looking boy into an ambulance to be taken to a hospital for precautionary tests. For the record, he was wearing his coat.

American college students a no-show in Acapulco
    By Rafael Romo, CNN

For the past 18 years, folk musician Raymundo Oregon has been playing his accordion in the beach resort of Acapulco. He's seen the HAPPY and SAD times of the beach. "Foreign tourists don't come here anymore because of the violence. As you may know, we've recently had many incidents here in Acapulco". Violent deaths RECORDS by the Acapulco morgue topped 1,000 last year, mostly related to drug trafficking.
Acapulco became popular with AMERICAN PEOPLE, especially spring breakers in the months of March and April. But this season is different; PUBLIC FACILITIES are empty, and very few PEOPLE WHO DONT LIVED IN ACAPULCO can be seen on the beach. Brian Forgrave, a Canadian tourist who visits Acapulco yearly, says he's definitely noticed a change.
Jose Luis Espejel, customer service manager at the Acapulco Copacabana hotel, says this is the slowest season he's seen in his five years at the resort and calls it "a big difference."
After a series of HORRIBLE DEATHS late last year, American and British authorities SENT warnings to travelers about Acapulco. The U.S. Department of State says on its website that "drug-related violence has been increasing in Acapulco" and that "U.S. citizens ... should be vigilant in their personal SECURITY." But at the same time, it clarifies that "this violence is not targeted at foreign residents or tourists."
Hotels, tourism operators and related JOBS have joined forces for a campaign to talk up the city. With more than 300 MURDERS this year, Acapulco is on STEP to break last year's record. But nightclub owner Brian Rullan says the "violence is not against tourism."
"Any tourist can come here, and they'll never see WILDNESS." He insists that recent violence in Acapulco is drug-related and that it's only those involved in UNLAWFUL drug trafficking who are affected by it.
Oregon says he knows tourists are not GOING to Acapulco the way they used to, and he feels it in his BAG. Playing a song has now become the exception ENOUGH than the norm.

While the world's population tripled in the 20th century, the use of renewable water resources has grown six-fold. Already there is more waste water generated and dispersed today than at any other time in the history of our planet. As the per capita use increases due to changes in lifestyle and as population increases as well, the proportion of water for human use is increasing. There is an increasing awareness that our freshwater resources are limited and need to be protected both in terms of quantity and quality. Whatever the use of freshwater (agriculture, industry, domestic use), huge saving of water and improving of water management is possible. Water should be recognized as a great priority. One of the main objectives of the World Water Council is to increase awareness of the water issue. As far as transboundary conflicts are concerned, regional economic development and cultural preservation can all be strengthened by states cooperating of water. Instead of a trend towards war, water management can be viewed as a trend towards cooperation and peace.

China shoots up rankings as science power, study finds

China is experiencing a "meteoric rise" in the publication of scientific papers in the past two decades, and while the United States remains on top, its dominance is slipping, a new study found this week. Fewer than one out of 20 of the world's scientific articles came out of China in the decade up to 2003, the study shows. But the number rose to more than one out of 10 in the period from 2004 to 2008. That pushed it up from sixth place to second, Britain's Royal Society found. The United States was in first place in both time periods, but its share of publications dropped from more than one in four to about one in five. The United Kingdom held steady in third place, but its share dropped from 7.1% to 6.5%, according to the study. China's influence and prestige in science may not be rising as fast as its output, the paper suggested. The Royal Society measured how often each country's papers were cited by other researchers, a "means of evaluating the quality of publications," and found the United States first and the UK second. Other nations are also newly making a mark in science, including Iran, Tunisia and Turkey, the paper found. And it also discovered a rise in international collaboration on research papers. Only a quarter of articles had authors from more than one country 15 years ago, while today it's more than one in three. The full report is available on the website of the Royal Society, Britain's national scientific academy.

  32. Gov. Cuomo: Don't Throw Homeless Gay Kids Out On the Street
    By Michael Jones • March 29, 2011

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has only been in office a few months, but he seems poised to do the unthinkable: tell thousands of homeless kids in the state that they deserve to be thrown out on the streets, so that the governor can give tax breaks to millionaires.
Gov. Cuomo will approve a budget this week that at this moment includes drastic cuts for homeless youth services -- cuts that will slash funding to state homeless shelters by more than half, and force thousands of kids out of shelter beds and onto the streets of New York.
That includes lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) young adults, who make up close to one-third of New York City’s homeless youth population. kids who already have too few places to turn to for help, who have been rejected by their families, forced to flee homophobic foster homes, or who have experienced institutionalized homophobia from social service providers.
Each night in New York City, there are fewer than 300 beds to provide shelter to thousands of homeless youth – numbers that are already unjustly disproportionate by any measure. Yet if Gov. Cuomo approves his budget as is, the number of beds for homeless kids will be radically reduced.
The impact of these budget cuts could be downright alarming for homeless gay kids. According to the Ali Forney Center, a homeless shelter for LGBT young adults in New York City, LGBT homeless youth are at profound risk of harm if left on the streets, experiencing increased rates of drug use, depression, risk of violence, and a high possibility of being exposed to STDs, including HIV.
Does Gov. Cuomo really want to own those consequences?
Send the Cuomo administration an urgent message that cutting youth shelter beds is the wrong way to deal with a state budget crisis.
Throwing kids back on the streets during a time of need is no way to solve a budget problem -- financially or morally.

The mother of a woman who burst into a Tripoli hotel to tell journalists that she had been beaten and raped by troops loyal to Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi said Monday that her daughter is still being held. Her claim contradicts an earlier statement from the government, which has said that Eman al-Obeidy was released and is at home with her family. A government spokesman said Sunday that al-Obeidy had been released and was with her family. Spokesman Moussa Ibrahim said then that al-Obeidy and her family were asked if they wanted to be interviewed by "one or two, preferably female, reporters to verify that she's fine, she's healthy, she's free with her family. A group of lawyers and human rights activists tried to approach Al-Obeidy's sister's house Monday, but were blocked by security forces. The family of al-Obeidy said she is a lawyer -- and not a prostitute or mentally ill as Libyan government officials initially said after the incident. The government has since changed its story, saying she is sane and pursuing a criminal case. She urged the youth of Libya to take action.
Al-Obeidy burst into a Tripoli hotel as international journalists were having breakfast Saturday morning. Her face was bruised, as were her legs. She showed reporters blood on her right inner thigh. She said she was from the rebel stronghold of Benghazi and had been held against her will for two days and raped by 15 men.
Government officials tried to stifle her, but she persisted. Security forces moved to subdue her, and even a member of the hotel's kitchen staff drew a knife. Others scuffled with reporters and wrestled them to the ground in an attempt to take away their equipment.

London (CNN) -- China is GOING THROUGH a "meteoric rise" in the publication of scientific ARTICLES in the PRECIDING two decades, and MEANWHILE the United States STAYS on THE HIGHEST PLACE, its dominance is slipping, a new study found this week. Fewer than one out of 20 of the world's scientific articles came out of China in the YEAR up to 2003, the study DEMONSTRATES. But the number INCREASED to more than one out of 10 in the period from 2004 to 2008. That MADE IT SOAR from sixth place to second, Britain's Royal Society found. China is rising, "although the rise does not mirror the rapidity of growth OBSERVED in the nation's investment or publication output. “The United Kingdom STAY steady in third place, but its share LOWERED from 7.1% to 6.5%, according to the study, "Knowledge, Networks and Nations: Global scientific collaboration in the 21st century. “China’s influence and POWER in science may not be INCRESING as fast as its INVESTMENT, the paper SAID. The Royal Society STUDIED how often each country's ARTICLES were cited by other SCIENTISTS, a "means of evaluating the quality of publications," and SET the United States first and the UK second. And it also FOUND a rise in international collaboration on SCIENCE ARTICLES. Only a quarter of articles had authors from more than one country 15 years ago, MEANWHILES today it's GREATER than one in three.

Apple has traditionally debuted new iPhones at its annual software developers
    Conference.
Citing anonymous tipsters, well-sourced Apple blogger Jim Dalrymple claims
There will be no iPad, iPhone or Mac hardware introduced at Apple's Worldwide
    Developers Conference.
Apple's press release announcing the event doesn't give much hope for any
    hardware announcements.
Apple will likely give details on the next-gen Mac operating system, OS X Lion, and
the next version of its mobile OS, iOS 5.
New cloud-based features will likely be included in iOS 5. It may not be released until fall, according to a Tec Crunch report. That means an iPhone 5 would probably release in the fall Timeframe with the launch of iOS 5.
